Summary

This chapter has quite a bit of information. However, RSVP is one of the largest and most complex pieces of MPLS TE. If you managed to absorb the entire chapter, great! If you managed to take away only a few points, here's what you should have learned from this chapter:

  • How SPF and CSPF work, and how they differ

  • How to control CSPF and manipulate the path a TE tunnel takes through a network

  • How tunnel reoptimization works

  • More than you ever wanted to know about RSVP—basics, packet formats, and some of the more complex operations

  • What link manager does behind the scenes

Out of that list, the two most important pieces to understand are CSPF and RSVP. They are the cornerstones of MPLS TE, and a thorough understanding of both of these pieces is vital if you're going to successfully use MPLS TE on your network.
