Summary

This chapter covered the MPLS LSR and the MPLS TE MIBs. The objects covered in each MIB were discussed, along with examples of how they compare to information available on the CLI.

The MPLS MIBs provide an alternative way to access information available through the CLI. Even though the method of accessing some of this information might seem tedious, polling the information using SNMP is how most reports are created. To create a performance report, for example, it might be easy to run the CLI to obtain the output for a handful of routers, but when you have a large network, it's efficient to collect the statistics using SNMP commands embedded within scripts or using tools such as HP OpenView and MRTG. If you are interested in learning more about management aspects of MPLS, references are provided in Appendix B.
